Joujouthèque / Toy Library

The Joujouthèque La Pêche Toy Library lends toys and games much like a book library lends books. Ours is coupled with drop-in times to play with other families. You can browse and sign out toys, or just come and play!

How does it help children, families and the environment?

• Meet and socialize with other parents and caregivers while playing with your children
• Try out different toys with your child to see what they’re ready for and interested in
• Provide children with a variety of toys without buying them – save money and storage space!
• Avoid buying toys which have a limited period of use, especially infant toys
• Borrow toys for visiting grandchildren or friends at the cottage for a short time
• Help the environment! Let’s share and recycle toys vs. buying and throwing away!

What kinds of toys are there?

There are toys for 0 – 10 year olds and even some board games and puzzles for older family members.

We have over 250 toys and games including arts and crafts, building blocks, bead sorters, washable cloth books, cooperative games, dolls and accessories, educational games and flashcards for extra learning practice, infant toys, musical toys and hand-held instruments, magnet sets, science kits, lots of puzzles (wooden, pegs for small hands, large floor puzzles, 500-piece), washable puppets, riding toys, role-play, shape sorters, 30 different vehicles, and wooden toys (painted and unpainted)… and a castle-fort!

Toys that we avoid in the collection are battery-operated, brand merchandise, and stuffed animals.

Borrowing

Toys may be borrowed for up to 3 weeks.

Each child in a family can sign out 2 toys and a puzzle. Each family may also sign out 1 parenting book.

We have some ‘long-term loans’ such as baby carriers, training wheels, a workbench, and exersaucers.

What does it cost?

Our toy library depends on donations of toys and on paid memberships to purchase and repair toys, and to maintain the toy library space.

Opening Times

Toys can be borrowed and returned at these weekly drop-in times. There is no return-box available:

  Second Saturday of every month 9:30 am – 11:00am
