Local Feltmaker/Artist Hannah Ranger will guide you and your child in making felted pouches – perfect for storing little fall time treasures! Hannah will also have her take-home felting kits for kids on hand – great way to start felting with your little ones!

(English) Learning French Through Play

Are you an anglophone family wanting to bring more French into your home and learn it with your young children?
Reading and singing to your kids in French, but not sure what to do next?
Here’s a fun way to ease into speaking with your children in French and getting them started too!

Gisele Lamontagne, local educator and family counsellor, is offering our group a first ‘Learning French through Play” activity which, with sufficient interest, will become a monthly series.
Using a very playful, child-centred approach, Gisele will help us learn and use everyday French language we can use with our 2 – 5 year olds around a specific theme. The first theme we’ll explore is ‘coming inside and preparing a snack’.

In French we’ll learn how to:

greet
take off our outside clothes
wash our hands
prepare a snack together
eat our snack and talk at the table
clean up together
(then the kids can play a bit while we debrief)
get dressed to go outside
say good bye!

We will practise these daily activities with Gisele and our children at Cabane à Jeux, and take home vocab ‘stickers’ from the activity that allow us to remember and practise what we learned – until the next monthly activity.

When/Quand: Saturday, Feb 19, 9am – 10am (before GrandMolo’s Biblio reading at Molo’s and the Farm Point Winter Carnival!!)

Where/Où: Cabane à Jeux (Church of Good Shepherd basement, 691 River Rd., Wakefield)

Cost/ Prix: CAJ members 5$/child, Non-members 7$/child

Includes/Incluant: Snack, and hand outs with Gisele’s Vocab Stickers for at-home practice

What to Bring/ Ce que vous devez apporter: Pen and paper if you like to take notes

The plan is to start with a short intro of the idea behind this series, and debrief at the end so we can understand your particular interests in learning French with your pre-schooler, and then further customize the workshops to the group’s needs.

There will be no Family Event on the second Saturday of this month- February 12, 2011. The Church of the Good Shepherd has its annual tea party on this day so the Cabane a Jeux space is not available. The tea party is a major fundraiser for the church and there are plenty of good buys for sale there. If you are looking for something to do this Saturday, it is worth heading down to the church anyway to see what you can find.
